What to do before showing up
Preparing for a boat decontamination is a crucial step to prevent the spread of invasive species and other aquatic nuisances. All boats are expected to clean, drain and dry boats before showing up to the decontamination station in order to get them back having fun on the lake in the fastest way possible
1. Remove Visible Debris: Before bringing the boat to a decontamination station, boaters should thoroughly inspect the boat, trailer, and equipment for any visible plant material, mud, or other debris. This includes cleaning the hull, propeller, anchor, and any other equipment that comes into contact with the water.
2. Drain All Water: Boaters should drain all water from the boat, including from live wells, bilges, ballast tanks, and other compartments before showing up for your contamination
3. Dry the Boat: Dry all compartments, life jackets, ropes, and the anchor before the decontamination

By following these preparation steps, boaters play a crucial role in preserving the health of aquatic ecosystems and ensuring that invasive species are not spread between water bodies. Staying informed about local regulations and taking necessary precautions can make a significant impact on protecting the environment.
